Prime Minister still popular

According to a new poll, almost half of respondents would like to see current Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde to continue as prime minister of Iceland.

In the nation-wide poll undertaken by daily newspaper Fréttabladid, 47.9 percent of respondents said they would like Prime Minister and leader of the Independence Party Geir H. Haarde to stay, as reported in Fréttabladid.

Twenty-two percent would like to see Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, leader of the Social Democrats, as the next prime minister, and 16.6 percent mentioned Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, leader of the Left-Greens.

The results of the poll were published last Thursday. The sample of 800 voters consisted equally of men and women from all constituencies in Iceland.
