Priest in South Iceland Suspected of Sexual Abuse

A priest in south Iceland requested a six-month temporary leave from his duties last week after being charged for sexually violating two teenage girls. The girls are 16 and 17, but the alleged violations happed a few years back.

The case began last week when the Selfoss police received a report from child protection authorities. It was followed by the two charges and, according to Fréttabladid, further charges can be expected.

The Selfoss police would not comment on the case other than saying that the investigation is in the preliminary stages. The priest has been questioned and the two girls will be called to the station to give more detailed reports on the case this week.
