Priest Shows Support for Collector of Wrecked Cars

Rev. Baldur Vilhelmsson from Vatnsfjördur fjord and Ragna Adalsteinsdóttir from Laugarból farm in the West Fjords, are collecting signatures to save wrecked cars owned by their neighbor on Gardstadir farm, near the village Súdavík.

The rural district council has given the owner of the wrecks an ultimatum: either he must remove a large portion of the defunct cars himself or pay the council to do it. Almost 600 useless vehicles are piled outside Gardstadir.

According to, the owner has to sign an agreement with the rural district before November 15 or the wrecks will be taken away.

Allegedly the car collector had already agreed to reduce the number of cars to 60 by fall 2008, but Rev. Vilhelmsson and Adalsteinsdóttir, who sympathize with their neighbor, may be able to save his broken down cars; apparently many of the locals are supporting their cause.
