Rev. Thórhallur Heimisson of Hafnarfjördur revealed on his blog on Thursday that four young persons have confessed to having set the Krýsuvíkurkirkja church on fire which burned to the ground in early January this year.
Krýsuvíkurkirkja.
“Four youngsters went to Krýsuvík with the sole purpose of setting the church on fire,” Heimisson wrote, adding that the police will report what happened shortly.
“I’d like to thank the police for their great job on solving this case. At the same time we pray for the young people who did such a thing and we restate our vows to rebuild the church with the blessing of the Lord and the help of good people,” the priest concludes.
The church was originally built in 1857 and restored in 1964. It was being preserved by the National Museum of Iceland.
