The annual photographic exhibition of the Icelandic Journalist Association will be opens in Gerdarsafn art museum in Kópavogur today. President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will deliver the opening address.
Then an award ceremony will take place, during which chairman of the Journalist Association, Valgardur Gíslason, will present the press photo awards of 2008.
Awards will be granted in seven categories: news, sports, portrait, magazine, environmental, daily life and photo series.
Special awards will be granted for the funniest picture of the year, the “most Icelandic” picture of the year and then the Press Photo 2008 will be announced.
Another exhibition, a retrospective of the work of photographer Jim Smart, will open on the same day in Gerdarsafn.
The Journalist Association’s exhibition has been among the most visited exhibitions in Iceland in recent years. It runs through May 3 and admission is free.
