President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, who was inaugurated yesterday, will address the Reykjavík Pride Parade on Saturday. He will be the first Icelandic president to do so, Kjarninn reports.
His first act in office will be a visit to Sólheimar in Grímsnes, Southwest Iceland, a community of about 100 people, with and without special needs, who live and work together, practicing organic farming. Guðni and First Lady Eliza Reid will have lunch with the residents. Guðni himself requested the visit, which was gladly accepted.
On Friday, the presidential couple and their four young children will travel to Dalvík, North Iceland, where they plan to attend the Great Fish Day. The following day, Guðni will address Reykjavík Pride at Arnarhóll in Reykjavík, before returning to Dalvík in the evening.
The presidential couple hosted a party at Bessastaðir, the presidential residence, following the inauguration. The party was attended by 150-200 guests. The president’s family has not yet moved in+to Bessastaðir, which is still undergoing renovation to be able to accommodate a family with four young children.
