President of Iceland, Ólafur
Ragnar Grímsson
Earlier this month, representatives from Google met with the president of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, to discuss “green energy” which they are said to be interested in using for their new offices.
Press secretary for the president, Örnólfur Thorsson, told daily Fréttabladid that he would not comment on whether Google was interested in setting up offices in Iceland but said that in Iceland energy is generated in an environmentally friendly way unlike in many other places.
“Topics discussed at the meeting included a global perspective of Icelandic business life, especially software and technology. The Icelandic business and technology community was also discussed as well as the development of high tech and research positions in Iceland,” said the press secretary.
Fréttabladid writes that the Google representatives and the President of Iceland also discussed Icelanders’ interest in seeking an “international” education.
