President of Iceland Breaks Ground for New Pool

President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff were present when Lilja Pálmadóttir and Steinunn Jónsdóttir broke ground for a new swimming pool in the town of Hofsós, north Iceland, in a special ceremony yesterday.

Local entrepreneurs Pálmadóttir and Jónsdóttir are donating the pool to their community. Also present was architect Sigrídur Sigthórsdóttir who will design the swimming pool. She also designed the Blue Lagoon, Morgunbladid reports.

After the ceremony it was announced that the municipality opened a call for tenders from contractors interested in undertaking the construction required.

The presidential couple then visited other places in the region, including old religious and educational center Hólar in Hjaltadalur valley.
