Preparations for next parliamentary session begins

The Althingi Parliamentary Committee will convene today in Stykkishólmur on Snaefellsnes peninsula, west Iceland, to prepare the agenda for the next parliamentary session of Iceland’s parliament, scheduled to begin October 1.

The committee traditionally holds a summer meeting in August outside Reykjavík. The reason Stykkishólmur was chosen is because it is the home town of parliamentary speaker Sturla Bödvarsson who heads the committee, Fréttabladid reports.

At today’s meeting the committee will discuss issues concerning Althingi’s institutes, a program for the parliament and its operations.

A member of the committee, Ásta Ragnheidur Jóhannesdóttir, recently said the controversial Grímsey island ferry might be discussed at the meeting.
