The swimming pool in Þingeyri and in Hólmavík will be closed for an undetermined period of time as of today due to the poor water levels in the national power company Landsvirkjun’s reservoirs.
Gunnar S. Jónsson, manager of the swimming pool in Hólmavík, told visir.is that his guess is that the pool will be closed for about two months.
Swimming pools in Iceland use geothermally-heated water. Gunnar said that the alternative—heating the pool with the use of oil—would cost ISK 80,000 (USD 700, EUR 515) per day.
