Political Accident at Grocery Store Register

Twenty-nine-year-old Bylgja Dröfn Jónsdóttir from Egilsstaðir, East Iceland, got a shock when she found out that she was running for the third seat for the new Endurreisnar-lista fólksins party in the upcoming municipal elections.

She told ruv.is that it was all a big misunderstanding after she thought she signed to be a referee for the party when paying for her groceries at the supermarket. She has since been trying to get her name taken off the list.

Farmer Áskell Einarsson, who is first on the party’s list, told visir.is that he talked to Bylgja Dröfn in the cash register queue and asked her if she wanted to be number three, eight or nine on the party’s list for the upcoming elections. She signed for the third slot.

According to election law, it is too late to change the list.

Brynja Dögg said she has no interest in politics and if elected will resign immediately.
