Police Searches Motorcycle Club Headquarters

In cooperation with the National Commissioner’s Special Forces, the Capital Region Police and customs agents, the Sudurnes Police searched the headquarters of motorcycle club Fáfnir yesterday. Weapons and a small amount of drugs were confiscated.

Two men were in the building when police arrived but were released after questioning.

According to Morgunbladid, the house search is related to the arrival of several members from the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, which is considered a criminal organization by some authorities, who are expected to land at Keflavík International Airport during the weekend.

It is unclear how many Hells Angels members are coming to Iceland—their visit is probably related to Fáfnir’s 11th anniversary—and the supervision at the airport will be tightened during the weekend.

Minister of Justice Björn Bjarnason sent an announcement in relation to the tightened security measures to the headquarters of the European Council of Ministers yesterday, stating they are necessary due to a national security threat.

The increased security measures began yesterday afternoon and will last until midnight on Sunday.
