The fight broke out on a lawn outside the nightclub Trix in Keflavík in South Iceland. About sixty people had gathered on the lawn, most of whom were involved in the brawl, according to national radio RÚV. When the police arrived to disperse the fight, some of the fighters turned against the police and as a consequence tear gas capsules were fired into the crowd. Nobody was arrested but a few brawlers had to go to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Reykjavík police were busy on Saturday night as well. Despite freezing temperatures, the nightlife of the capital was lively and many people are reported to have behaved in a disorderly manner. Six were arrested for inappropriate conduct, e.g. for urinating publicly and smashing bottles. Nine minor assaults were reported.
