A statement from the police says there wasn’t reason enough to request custody over the man who maintains his innocence, Morgunbladid reports.

The man’s lawyer, Gudrún Sesselja Arnardóttir, said a few media outlets jumped the gun when reporting on this case.

Tabloid DV published her client’s name and photograph in its online edition yesterday and later a similar story appeared in the online media Pressan and Eyjan.

“Custody hadn’t even been requested and I find such publication utterly ridiculous,” Arnardóttir said. According to Fréttabladid, a lawsuit is being considered because of this.

More than 30 police officers are working on the murder investigation. Forensic examination of the crime scene is almost finished and the collection other of evidence is ongoing. Many comments have been received from the public.
