Police Investigate Tourist Death

Police are investigating the death of a French tourist whose body was found by search and rescue teams in South Iceland yesterday. RÚV reported first.

The man was driving a rented car. The search for the man began when a park ranges alerted the car rental company the car had been parked at Sandfell for a long time. The man rented the car for one month on December 24th. He is last known to have made a trip to Skaftafell, South Iceland, on December 29th.

The French Embassy in Iceland has alerted the man’s family members of the situation. A ruling on the cause of death is yet to be made, but foul play is not suspected.

The car is a gray four-door Volkswagen Polo. Police ask people who many have seen the car between December 29th and January 15th to contact South Iceland Police by phone at +354 444 2000 or by email at [email protected].
