Police Investigate if Attack Was Paid For

The police are continuing to investigate the incident in Akureyri, North Iceland, last week where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at an empty vehicle outside the home of an employee of the District Commissioner’s Office early in the morning of November 12. A masked individual tried to break into his home the night before and threatened him with a knife.

Morgunblaðið reports that according to the paper’s sources, those responsible for organizing the attack did not carry it out themselves but rather paid someone else to do it. Head of the police’s investigation division, Friðrik Smári Björgvinsson, has declined to comment on the matter as the investigation is ongoing.

Six men were arrested on suspicion of involvement, four of whom were quickly released. Friðrik told visir.is yesterday that a decision had not yet been made on whether the remaining two men would continue to be kept in detention after today.
