Capital Area Police are using Pinterest to help burglary victims around the city identify and claim their stolen belongings, Vísir reports.
Police have recently recovered a great number of stolen goods, but there are so many that they have now resorted to posting pictures of the items on Pinterest in order to speed up the process of returning things to their rightful owners. As of this writing, 133 items have been posted on their two Pinterest pages (here and here), both called “Haldlagðir munir,’ or “Confiscated Belongings,” but police say that more will be posted following the Easter holiday weekend.
Stolen items on these pages include coins, keys, jewelry, sunglasses, e-cigarette accessories, digital cameras, backpacks, baby clothes, stamps, and more.
Five individuals are being held in custody on suspicions related to nearly 130 reported burglaries in the capital area, around 50 of which took place in February. It’s estimated that the value of stolen goods totals in the millions of krónur.
