Police Car Stolen in West Fjords

A man broke into the Ísafjörður police station early yesterday morning and stole a police jeep from the station’s garage.

The police had been called out due to rowdy behavior in town and so no one was manning the station at the time, bb.is reports.

The man drove the car wildly around town, despite the icy roads, later leaving it parked on the sidewalk. The vehicle was found in a severely damaged state.

The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards, mbl.is reports. Police say that the man had a run in with them in town earlier in the evening.

They are calling for witnesses to come forward in helping them with their investigation.
