The government’s recommendations for measures aimed at lowering food prices are in the final stages and will lead to substantial reductions over the next few months.
Food prices will then be on par with what they are in the other Nordic countries. Geir H. Haarde’s speech at the opening of the parliamentary session yesterday evening and is reported in Fréttabladid today.
The Prime Minister said, that the solid position of the state treasury enables such measures to be taken. The recommendations will be introduced in the near future, when their means for implementation has become clear.
