Icelandic Prime Minister Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson has sent his congratulations to US President Elect Donald Trump. Sigurður Ingi expects the good relations between the two countries to continue and is not worried about Trump’s controversial campaign promises.
RÚV asked about his reaction to the result, given the fact that most Icelanders appear to be acting negatively toward Trump’s election.
Sigurður Ingi responded, “Of course people can have different opinions of individuals, but I expect the relations of the countries to remain as good as they have been, and expect nothing else.”
When asked whether he expected Trump to keep his controversial campaign promises, Sigurður Ingi’s response was, “Undeniably, several declarations during the election campaign have caused some surprise and been peculiar, but I presume that when people take office, there is more seriousness, and people have to face the environment we live in. I expect the relations of the countries to remain as good as they have been.”
He denied being worried about the election result.
