PM and Bishop of Iceland Give Parents Advice

By Iceland Review

Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde and Bishop of Iceland Karl Sigurbjörnsson gave parents of children in Laufásborg kindergarten in Reykjavík cards with ten pieces of advice yesterday on how to raise children as part of an initiative entitled “Protect Childhood.”

The cards will be distributed to all parents of children in kindergartens and elementary schools across Iceland, Morgunbladid reports.

The initiative was launched by the Bishop’s Office and is aimed at reminding parents to be prepared to take responsibility and to protect their children from unnecessary aggravations.

Sigurbjörnsson said today’s children are subject to increasingly powerful aggravations, which rob them off their childhood. Therefore it is important for parents to be there for their children and provide them with guidance and love.

Haarde said it is important for everybody involved in bringing up children to be reminded regularly of their role.
