Then Vilhjálmur Th. Vilhjálmsson, chairman of the Reykjavík City Council, will address attendees, after which the urn of Ásbjörn Björnsson, former director of the Capital Area Cemeteries, will be buried. He will become Sólland’s guardian, visir.is reports.
Operations on the ashes plot began in the summer of 2005 and were continued in consistency with available funds. The lot was allocated to the Capital Area Cemeteries in 2003.
In a competition on the design of the area, 16 proposals were submitted and the winning proposal came from Tröd Architects.
