Plain Vanilla to Cut 27 Positions

The Icelandic tech company Plain Vanilla will be cutting its number of positions by 27, according to RÚV. CEO Þorsteinn B. Friðriksson confirmed this and said the layoffs were part of organizational restructuring. More emphasis will be placed on the company’s operation in Los Angeles, where a TV quiz show based on Plain Vanilla’s mobile trivia app QuizUp, is being produced in cooperation with NBC.

Þorsteinn stated that more emphasis will now have to be put on increasing company profits, by increasing income and reducing costs. “This is far from enjoyable, but a company like Plain Vanilla needs to be able to react quickly to new conditions.”

A company statement says that the plan is for Plain Vanilla and Glue Mobile to join operations within a year, but Glue Mobile purchase a large share in Plain Vanilla early this year.
