The results of the latest MMR opinion poll on support for individual political parties and for the sitting government shows that the Pirate Party remains by far the biggest force in Icelandic politics, despite suffering a slight drop in support.
MMR carried out its research between February 23 and March 1, and found that 37 percent of respondents supported the Pirate Party, which is a drop of 1.6 percent on the previous poll, which ended on February 10. The latest poll put combined support for the two governing coalition parties at 36.2 percent—edging slightly up since the last poll. Changes in support for all parties were only slight between months.
Of the two governing parties, support for the Independence Party stands at 23,4 percent; up from 21.6 last time and 21.1 percent in the poll before that. Progressive Party support is at 12.8 percent, compared to 10.8 percent last time and 12.2 percent in the poll before that.
Support for the Left Greens has fallen from 11 percent to 10.2 percent, and now down to 7.8 percent – which is now identical to the Social Democrats’ support. Support for the Social Democrats has itself dropped from 9.5 percent in the last poll. Bright Future is up slightly at 4.2 percent and support for all other parties is under one percent.
79.4 percent of respondents mentioned a political party when asked, while 7.9 percent said they were undecided, 5.6 percent said they would submit a blank ballot in protest, 2.9 percent do not plan to vote, and 4.3 percent would not answer.
In a separate question, respondents were asked whether or not they support the current government. 32.7 percent said ‘yes’.
