A pipe bomb was found in a bus shelter in the town of Kópavogur, just outside of Reykjavík, Vísir reports. The device was reported to police around 7 pm on Wednesday evening.
“I didn’t realize exactly what it was at first,” explained Hermann Örn Sigurðarson, the young man found the bomb and who lives on the same street. “I picked it up and held it—it was very heavy and then I saw the wire and set it back down again.”
A bomb squad was then called to the scene and the street was closed off while they inspected and removed the device. No one was injured in the process.
