Pier Festivals in North and South Iceland

The annual Bryggjuhátíd pier festival began in Stokkseyri, south Iceland, on Thursday and will continue throughout the weekend. This weekend a Bryggjuhátíd festival will also be held in the village of Drangsnes in northwest Iceland.

In the evening, there will be a bonfire and group singing on the pier in Stokkseyri. Photo by Geir Ólafsson.

At Stokkseyri the helicopter crew of the Icelandic Coast Guard will pay townspeople a visit and land on the pier, ruv.is reports.

MP Árni Johnsen will lead group singing on the pier by the flickering of a bonfire. Afterwards a dance will be held on the pier, mainly to the songs of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

The Stokkseyri Bryggjuhátid is organized by the South Iceland Ram Friend Association Örvar. Click here for further information about the festival (in Icelandic).

In Drangsnes, Bryggjuhátíd—a festival for the whole family—has been held annually since 1996. The program includes a jigging competition for children, a tasting of seafood, exhibitions, music and dance.

For further information about the Drangsnes festival, contact the Information Center in Hólmavík, a neighboring town.
