Picture of Iceland on Times Square

A photograph of Reykjanes peninsula, southwest Iceland, by hobby photographer Olgeir Andrésson was chosen as “Picture of the Day” to be shown on the huge neon sign on Times Square in New York yesterday.

According to visir.is, Andrésson’s picture was shown every five minutes on this famous and busy square and it has also made it to the Times Square Gallery, which can be viewed online.

“I sent my picture about one month ago and had completely forgotten about it,” Andrésson said. He took the picture of a rocky landscape near Reykjanes Lighthouse in late May this year and created a special effect by leaving the diaphragm of his camera open for 30 seconds.

A photograph by another Icelandic hobby photographer, Gudrún Gísladóttir, has also been shown on Times Square. Her picture could be viewed there in October.
