Pick Up Artist’s Iceland Workshop Canceled?

A planned three-day course on how to seduce women by self-described ‘pick up artist’ Julien Blanc to be held in Iceland next June may have been canceled, visir.is reports. The lecture no longer appears on the American company Real Social Dynamics’ website.

Over 11,000 people have signed a petition on Petitions24.com to stop Blanc from coming to Iceland.

Blanc’s controversial strategies are said to include “intimidation,” “emotional abuse” and using “male privilege.”

As reported last week, Blanc recently cut his trip to Australia short due to huge opposition to his visit. His visa was canceled due to criticism of his “techniques” which suggest men harass and abuse women, including by choking them, independent.co.uk reports.

Blanc claims this was an “attempt at humour.”

A Facebook post by Icelandic comedian Hugleikur Dagsson, later translated into English and published by the Reykjavík Grapevine, calling for Icelandic men to hit on Blanc when he comes to Iceland has been picked up by The Independent.

“I do not think we should prevent him from coming here. Barring people from coming here is stupid. Why make a martyr out of him? … If we deny him entry, he’ll brag about it on Twitter and probably get loads of retweets …,” Hugleikur wrote. “If we see him in the street, we’ll give him a wink. Whistle at him. … Let’s make him feel like a chick,” he continued.

A planned lecture in Sweden next year has also been taken off the website. Blanc is facing a boycott of his lectures in other countries.

Efforts by visir.is to contact a representative of Real Social Dynamics have so far been unsuccessful.
