A physician at the ER Unit at the University Hospital warned Icelanders yesterday to be careful while cleaning and decorating for Christmas. He told Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, that every Christmas there are examples of people injuring themselves, including breaking bones, when cleaning and decorating. The physician, Ólafur Ragnar Ingimarsson, told RÚV that one time a man broke his spine while retrieving the Christmas lights from his garage loft.
Ólafur said that, around this time of year, mostly older women get injured, some while cleaning the house, but most injuries are due to icy roads and icy sidewalks.
