Reykjavík saw a record amount of snowfall this past December. In the last few days before the New Year the snow kept tumbling down, leaving motorists stuck in snowdrifts.

In the night of December 29, more than 90 calls for assistance were received, to which approximately 50 members of ICE-SAR search and rescue responded.

These pictures show members of ICE-SAR helping snowbound commuters in the capital region in the early hours of December 29.
