Photos from a Morning Stroll

By Iceland Review

In Iceland you can’t wait for the sun. If you plan on your regular Sunday walk you go, no matter what the weather is like. This Sunday morning we took to Búrfellsgjá, a lava formation next door to Reykjavík in the Heidmörk natural park. You take the road from Reykjavík to Hafnarfjördur, and make a left turn at Vífilstadir (maybe the sign says Heidmörk), follow the Heidmörk signs until you are off the paved road, drive a few hundred meters until you find a parking place on the left (it takes only five cars, at most). Then you head south.

You follow the trail as far as it goes, down some steps, past some caves and through the narrow gorge leading you up to the crater. You will see many interesting formations on the way.
