An amendment to health regulations now permits restaurant owners to allow dogs and cats in their establishment, subject to certain conditions.
“They can come tomorrow, or even today,” Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources Björt Ólafsdóttir, who signed the amendment today, told Vísir.
The regulation applies to all privately-owned restaurants. If owners want to open their doors to pets, they must declare it to the Health Committee but do not need to request special permission.
“The regulation states that it must be clear at the door or somewhere close that pets are allowed in that particular place. It must be clear to people, customers who walk in what the conditions are,” stated Björt.
“These are not public places like healthcare centres or anything like that where people do not have a choice in attending. Rather this applies to restaurant owners who want to open their doors [to pets],” she added.
