Peculiar Stone Found in Reykjavík – Viking Remains?

A fraction of a carved stone with what looked like a Viking-style pattern was discovered by young Daníel Alexandersson while he was wading in the Reykjavík river Elliðaár recently. He brought it to Árbæjarsafn – Reykjavík City Museum.

“It is of course very interesting for us to get such objects and now we will, in collaboration with our colleagues at the Archaeological Heritage Agency of Iceland, analyze what it is or what it might be,” Guðbrandur Benediktsson of Reykjavík City Museum told ruv.is.

Daníel was very excited about the discovery because he is interested in the Viking Era. “I’m very interested in ancient remains and other things connected with archaeology. When I’m surrounded by old things I always start to imagine that I’m in the past.”
