American made Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter, distributed in Iceland by the wholesale Innes, was removed from shelves in Icelandic stores this week due to a risk of salmonella infection.
According to Morgunbladid, about 300 Americans have been infected by salmonella since August, which is believed to have come from jars of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter registered with a number that begins with 2111.
No salmonella infections related to the consumption of peanut butter have been reported in Iceland yet, but Innes asks those who are in possession of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter with a matching registration number to throw it away or hand it in to the wholesale.
Although 300 cases of salmonella have been reported in the US since August 2006, doctors only recently discovered that the bacteria had come from peanut butter.
