Patchy Ice on Mountain Roads

There is patchy ice on mountain roads in the West Fjords and in the north, according to mbl.is. Patchy ice has been reported on Hrafnseyrarheiði and Gemlufallsheiði in the West Fjords, in Vatnsskarð (east of Akureyri) og Öxnadalsheiði (between Skagafjörður and Eyjafjörður). There is patchy ice, too, around Lake Mývatn and in Möðrudalsöræfi, North Iceland, and slippery roads in Mývatnsöræfi, North Iceland. There is patchy ice between Vík and Kirkjubæjarklaustur, South Iceland.

Other than that, road conditions are good. More snow is expected on higher mountain roads today, first on Hellisheiði and Mosfellsheiði in the south, but later elsewhere.

Because of the strike of SFR Union of Public Workers, the operations of the Icelandic Road Administration will be affected. Its offices all around the country will be closed and phone service limited. Updates of road conditions on the Administration’s web page could be delayed.
