They were all rescued from the hazardous situation but according to witnesses on site, some passengers fell into the river, mbl.is reports.
The bus’s windows and rooftop were above the water surface but the undermining soil posed a risk of the bus tipping over. A bulldozer was used to push the water away from the bus and poles were erected.
According to ruv.is, all passengers have been brought to safety and members of the search and rescue assocoation ICE-SAR has arrived on location; no one was injured in the accident.
People are being ferried across the river because the Múlakvísl bridge was destroyed in a flood on Friday night, damaging the Ring Road, Iceland’s highway no. 1, between Vík and Kirkjubaejarklaustur.
