Parliamentarian Álfheiður Ingadóttir of the Left Greens has sent a letter to Reykjavík Chief of Police asking for access to data used in the police investigation of whether members of Alþingi instigated the protests and directed protesters who demonstrated outside the parliament building in January 2009, mbl.is reports.

The head of the investigation, Chief of Police Geir Jón Þórisson, who happens to be a new contender for the position of vice president of the right wing Independence Party, said in radio program Sprengisandur on Saturday that he has evidence that some left wing parliamentarians plotted the pots and pans revolution and controlled it from within Alþingi’s walls.
Minister Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, and chairman of the Left Greens, dismisses the accusations by Geir Jón Þórisson as “…nonsense. He has not provided any proof. We did everything we could to calm the situation, and asked people to protest peacefully.”
