Paralyzed Adventurer Plans Tours for the Disabled

icelandunlimited-logoJón Gunnar Benjamínsson, a young tour guide and travel agent who suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident in 2007, has not given up on travel, crossing the country on an ATV in 2009. Now he has started his own travel company, Iceland Unlimited, especially geared towards meeting the needs of people with disabilities.

“After rehabilitation and after evaluating the choices I was facing in life, I chose to continue working in the tourism industry as I had done but at a different pace and with a different focus,” Benjamínsson writes on his company’s website.

“Abandoning the idea of servicing a great mass of people I decided to focus on the few, giving my customers the personal touch and care I feel people should get when traveling to an exotic destination as Iceland truly is,” he adds.

In description of his company, he says: “Iceland Unlimited is a fiercely independent travel service in Iceland. We specialize in assisting everyone with their travel arrangements in Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands with special focus on assisting and finding suitable travel solutions for disabled travelers.”

Benjamínsson has obtained all necessary licenses and plans to fully launch operations in the coming spring.
