Over One Thousand Drivers Caught Speeding in South Iceland

The police in Hvolsvöllur in South Iceland have stopped and fined 1,375 drivers so far this year, which is almost an all-time record, only in 2008 were more drivers stopped in the same period.

Every three out of four drivers caught for speeding are foreign tourists, mbl.is reports.

Ninety percent of drivers have paid on the spot, and a handful have lost their license for driving much faster than the 90 kph (56 mph) speed limit on Icelandic main roads.
