In February 2011, 125 new private limited companies were registered, which is about a 15.5 percent decrease from February 2010 when 148 new private limited companies were registered, according to new numbers from Statistics Iceland.

The largest number of new registrations was in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and financial and insurance activities.
In February 2011, there were 130 corporate insolvencies compared with 84 in February 2010, which is about a 55 percent increase. The largest number of insolvencies was also in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles.
