Outdoor Christmas Market Opens in Reykjavík

Mayor of Reykjavík Jón Gnarr opened a Christmas market at Ingólfstorg square in the center of the capital at a festive ceremony yesterday. The market will be open every day until Christmas.

At the opening, members of the Kársnesskóli school girls’ choir performed led by conductor Þórunn* Björnsdóttir and members of the brass band Lúðrasveitin* Svanur played a few holiday tunes, Morgunblaðið reports.

Also, “The City Center’s 2011 Christmas Window” was awarded to the most beautiful window displays in stores downtown.

This time the stores Aurum on Bankastræti* 4, Eva on Laugavegur 26 and Nostalgía on Laugavegur 32 were awarded.

The mayor presented the store’s representatives with prizes and thanked them for their contribution to decorating the city center.
