Other Professions Look towards Doctors’ Contracts

While the government has announced that there isn’t room for improving the wages of other professions to the same extent as doctors—their basic salaries are said to have increased by at least 20 percent—other healthcare workers and labor union leaders disagree.

“Doctors are an important profession in the healthcare system but so are nurses and I don’t find that they are in a more unique position than we are,” chair of the Association of Icelandic Nurses Ólafur G. Skúlason told ruv.is.

Chair of the Federation of General and Special Workers in Iceland Björn Snæbjörnsson commented that the winter will be hard on the labor market, referencing the upcoming negotiation of new wage contracts, predicting further strikes.
