In the first six months of 2009, the profit was 11,1 million USD, compared to 10,6 million USD in the same period in 2008. The sales amounted to 81,3 million USD in the second quarter of this year.

“Economic crises in all of our principal markets have affected the sales and our customers are being careful due to uncertainty,” Jón Sigurdsson, director of Össur said in a statement. “Contracts with some of our European suppliers have not been renewed which results in a temporary negative impact on sales in Europe but not on the profitability.

“A clearly marked policy in sales and marketing in the United States gives us hope for a positive development. A new version of the electronic knee RHEO KNEE II, as well as confirmation that the electronic foot PROPRIO FOOT has been accepted into their restitution plan is an important milestone for the future of the bionic product line.”
