The Oslo Christmas tree on Austurvöllur square in downtown Reykjavík has been taken to shelter due to the imminent storm, RÚV reports. Last year’s gift from Norway, a tree of similar height an beauty, was left standing defenseless in the wind, sustaining such serious injury that it had to be replaced by a homegrown variety.
We’ve since learned from experience to take good care of our Norwegian gifts. It’s about time we do, because when this year’s Norwegian beauty was delivered, we received a note saying it would be the last tree to arrive as a gift.
Unlike last year’s casualty, this tree had already been decorated and lit, making taking it down even more cumbersome. No information is available on when the tree will be back on its foot.
