Organ Concert in Hafnarfjördur Church

By Iceland Review

Organist Natalía Chow and soprano Kristín R. Sigurdardóttir will induct the new organ in Hafnarfjardarkirkja, the church of Hafnarfjördur, a neighboring town of Reykjavík, with a concert today at 5 pm.

The duo will perform songs by foreign composers such as Buxtehude, Handel and Mozart, and pieces by Icelandic composers Á. Thorsteinsson and S. Thórdarson.

Hafnarfjardarkirkja has a long history. It was built in 1914 in a neoclassical romantic style, according to the design of Rögnvaldur Ólafsson, the first educated Icelandic architect.

The church’s first musical instrument was a small eight to nine voice pipe organ.
