The majority of Icelanders supports whaling, according to a Gallup survey conducted last week on behalf of various interest groups within the fishing industry. Of those polled, 73.1 percent were in favor of whaling, 11.5 percent were opposed, and 15.4 percent of respondents were neither for nor against. A similar survey conducted in 1997 revealed a similar percentage in favor, or 72 percent, with 20.8 percent opposed and 7.2 percent neither for nor against. Based on this, Icelanders’ opposition to whaling has dropped considerably. Morgunbladid online reports. The findings were introduced at a meeting of the above-mentioned interest groups yesterday.
