Opera Days are being held in Kópavogur through the weekend. The festival, which began June 1, is the first of its kind in Iceland and organized by young musicians. A variety of performances will be offered in several locations throughout the town, which is a short distance from Reykjavík. All events are free, except for noon concerts. An opera walk will begin at the pavilion by Gerðarsafn museum at 6 pm tonight. Guests will be led through town, where they encounter all sorts of happenings.
Offerings tonight include the play Poppea Remixed at Kópavogur Theater and a cabaret evening in the pavilion by Gerðarsafn museum.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the music of Brahms and the sounds of bel canto will resonate in Salurinn music hall, followed by a children’s walk, an opera walk and the second performance of Poppea Remixed. The evening concludes with romantic songs.
Sunday, June 5, American songs and German Lieder will delight guests in Salurinn music hall, followed by a children’s walk and an opera walk.
The festival’s final concert will be held in Salurinn music hall. It will feature music by Bach, Football Opera by Helgi R. Ingvarsson and selections from two operas performed earlier at the festival.
