One third wants same coalition government

One third of participants, or 36.5 percent, in a new opinion poll conducted by Fréttabladid newspaper, wants the Independence Party (Sjálfstaedisflokkurinn) and Progressive Party (Framsóknarflokkurinn) to form the next coalition government.

Support for the government is increasing. In Fréttabladid’s poll from April 21, 28.3 percent wanted the two parties to remain in government.

According to the poll, 20.3 percent want the next coalition government to be comprised of the Social Democrats (Samfylkingin) and the Left-Green Movement (Vinstri graenir).

A coalition government between the Social Democrats and the Independence Party would be supported by 14.5 percent, but only 9.3 percent could imagine the Independence Party and the Left Greens cooperating.

Fréttabladid contacted 1,600 voters via telephone on May 5 and 61.1 percent participated in the poll.
