One-Fourt of Women in Iceland Suffer Domestic Abuse

According to a new study, published in the latest issue of the Journal of Advanced Nursing, almost 25 percent of women in Iceland have been victims of mental, physical or sexual abuse in their homes.

A questionnaire was sent to 7,000 women in Iceland aged between 18 and 67 and approximately 2,700 women responded to it. It is the most extensive study that has been undertaken on this subject to date, Fréttabladid reports.

The study was conducted by Brynja Örlygsdóttir, Ph.D. in nursing, and Erla Kolbrún Svavarsdóttir, a professor of nursing at the University of Iceland.
