The Office of the Ombudsman for Children has sent a letter to the Ministry of Education, expressing concern regarding the fact that nearly 90 percent of children spend seven hours or more in kindergarten every weekday.
Some children spend even more time than that in kindergarten, the ombudsman states, up to nine hour per day. The time children spend in kindergarten has lengthened in recent years and the ombudsman believes it is necessary to review the amount of time children spend in kindergarten and elementary school, Morgunbladid reports.
In the letter to the Ministry of Education, the ombudsman states that it is important for authorities, employers, parents and schools to discuss the situation, “with the goal of securing the rights of children to enjoy their childhood and interact with their parents.”
